"Last night was fabulous because I didn’t have to concern myself with my show, my audience; I could just go up and sing these songs that I grew up on and that have influenced me and with a crack band – it was Dwight Yokam’s band and I did Brown Sugar, Jumpin’ Jack Flash and it was just heavenly. It’s almost like playing a great role as an actor, playing Richard II, playing Macbeth or playing Hamlet, you know. It felt as classic as that. I mean, if Shakespeare can be seen 500 years after he wrote them, why not Jagger/Richards? And just singing those songs is like being cast in a great role in a movie, and last night was a great movie, and all my fans turned out. They said 24 hours before I was going to do it, and there they were."
