MAX SENT THIS: The Best Prog Rock Bands of All Time

Max Blake, an exceedingly intelligent young man whom my wife and I adopted as a 'nephew' some years ago, is not just working towards a PhD in insect genetics at a Welsh university that I can't spell, but he is also a proghead par excellence and occasionally reads The Gonzo Daily. Yesterday he wrote to me with  this link. "It will make you cross" he wrote.

I am a bad tempered old git these days, and lots of things make me cross. However the Rolling Stone list of 'The Best Prog Rock Bands of All Time', is not really one of them, even though it misses out Van Der Graaf Generator and includes Jethro Tull (who - most of the time at least - weren't prog).

However, it is an interesting list, and I will welcome (and post) your comments...

  1. Awesome! Dream Theater is in the list! It’s just really sad Mike Portnoy left in 2010. But, still, as a whole, Dream Theater is a striking prog band. Their songs are completely taking me away! The talent of playing your chosen instrument (like those using mandolin picks when they play for instance) is reinforced when you play often and when you are inspired by other musicians who are known for their musical talents. I also think Van Der Graaf Generator should have been in the list. Great post!
